Cachi is a beautiful village, located northwest of the Calchaquí Valleys, rested on the eastern side of the "Nevado de Cachi", a mole of 6720 meters. and bordered by the Calchaquí river, who was born not far from there, in the tops of the "Nevado de Acay", another mole of 5950 meters above sea level.

Its name derives from a confusion that took the natives, who mistook the snowy summit of the hill with a saline. This is not so unreasonable, considering that the region abounds in salt and its summit never before achieved, or were not reported until then.

Cachi es un hermoso pueblo, ubicado al Noroeste de los Valles calchaquíes, reposado sobre la ladera oriental del Nevado de Cachi, una mole de 6720 mts.

y bordeado por el cristalino Río Calchaquí, el cual nace no muy lejos de ahí, en las cimas del Nevado de Acay, otra mole de 5950 msnm. Su nombre deriva de una confusión que tuvieron los nativos, los cuales confundieron la cumbre nevada del cerro con una salina. Esto no es tan descabellado, teniendo en cuenta que en la región abundan las salinas y su cumbre nunca antes había sido alcanzada, o no se tenían reportes hasta ese entonces. EL VIAJE Se comienza recorriendo parte del Valle de Lerma, pasando por Cerrillos, La Merced hasta el pueblo de El Carril, donde se toma un desvío en dirección a Chicoana. Se ingresa por la Quebrada de Los Laureles, visitando Escoipe, donde fue filmada la película “ La Guerra Gaucha”. Se sigue hacia el
Maray y se ingresa a la fantástica “Cuesta del Obispo”, con vistas panorámicas del Valle Encantado, para luego llegar a los 3348 msnm en Piedra del Molino, el punto más alto del recorrido. Desde este punto se tiene una visión panorámica formidable. Comienza el descenso, pasando por el Parque Nacional Los Cardones, donde miles de cardones y la fauna de la zona se encuentran protegidos, hasta el pueblo de Payogasta, para luego continuarhasta Cachi, donde se conocen su museo arqueológico, el cementerio y la Iglesia. - RECORRIDO: 320 km .
