We left early from a hostel in Salta to Cachi in direction to the highest point in this way, the Stone Mill or "Piedra del Molino" (3348 masl), we did a drop of 56 km. in about 3 hours.

The next day we left in the direction of Molinos, the distance that separates us cycling was 50 km.
After about 5 hours riding and stopping to take lots of pictures and contemplate the landscape, we come to town.
In the newly opened Hacienda de Molinos we rest our tired bodies were also hit by the intense sun of the Valleys.

The third day we expected the harder time, about 52 km. Since Angastaco to San Carlos, then continuing to Cafayate.
Under the strong ray of sun, we spend the day on the bicycles stopping for lunch and rest.

We arrived in Cafayate tired but happy for having successfully completed this section, and after a rest at the Hostal del Valle, we went to eat at El Rancho, an excellent restaurant located in a corner of the square.

The last day was more relaxed and to pedal almost the same distance that the days preceding the Quebrada de las Conchas, or Cafayate.

The difference was that the excellent asphalt and the decline of this route towards us more light.
We went through the most interesting formations that the wind erosion and water pollution is responsible for carving. The most striking are fiteatro and La Garganta del Diablo.

Once we arrived at Alemania, we continue in the vehicle to the Salta city, where the journey ends, but the memories stay in our photo cameras and our memories.

These images were broadcast by the government of the city of Warsaw, Poland, to raise awareness to the population of helmet use in vehicles such as bicycles.

It seems a good initiative, and as you share them here.

20/1/2008 - Canoeing in Campo Alegre Lake, Salta

Canoe in SaltaWe were still in the beautiful city of Salta staying in our new home away from home, the family operated Las Rejas B&B. By the time we left, we were considered more part of the furniture than part of the family...

One day we decided to book a tour with the owner´s son Fran. He took us to the beautiful Campo Alegre Lake to go canoeing but we got a little more than we bargained for. Not only was the weather freakishly perfect, we were literally the only people there!

We effortlessly canoed from one side of the lake to the other. I barely had enough time to learn my right from left when we had slid into the lake´s premium parking spot.

When we got off the canoe, we noticed strange pink gelatinous looking formations all over the rocks. Fran pointed out that this was actually snail caviar. Unfortunately though the snails themselves were not pink...

Fran, an esteemed member of Friends of the Mountains (or some such group) was in a privileged position of being able to lead us up a hill, any hill of our choosing, which did not have a marked route. We were clearly satisfied at mounting this virginal hill.
